What planets are currently visable to a telescope in Pennsylvania?

Posted on May 15th, 2010 by admin

I just got a novice level telescope for Chirstmas and I want to know where to look in the sky for planets. I live in the outskirts of Pittsburgh. Are there any websites listing where planets are right now or maps?

Earth, Venus, maybe Jupiter. Uranus, and Neptune. Saturn, but it rises after midnight. So Mercury and Mars are not visible.

Download a sky map every month.

The Search For Earth-Like Planets

Posted on May 14th, 2010 by admin

The search for Earth-like planets is reaching a fever-pitch. Does the evidence so far help shed light on the ancient question: Is the galaxy filled with life, or is Earth just a beautiful, lonely aberration? If things dont work out on this planet Or if our itch to explore becomes unbearable at some point in the future Astronomers have recently found out what kind of galactic real estate might be available to us. Well have to develop advanced transport to land there, 20 light years away. The question right now: is it worth the trip?

What are the different material planets in Hinduism?

Posted on May 12th, 2010 by admin

Apparently, there are material planets in hinduism where different demigods/deities/devas reside like the planet Bramhaloka. What exactly are they. Are they just different planets with higher beings of life form? Can any of these planets be proven scientifically, because according to hinduism they exist in this material universe.

The plants used to make material, cotton, linen, hemp, sisal, you get the point, now if these plants are talking to you, have your doctor cut back on your medication.

What planets were visible during the 1967 total solar eclipse?

Posted on May 11th, 2010 by admin

In 1967, the Sun, the Moon, and five planets visible with the naked eye were all in conjunction with each other during a solar eclipse. This made the viewing of Mercury, Mars, Saturn, and what two other planets possible?

Planets and Stars (please read (more info) )

Posted on May 9th, 2010 by admin

READ THIS FIRST! : The Size Of Planets and Stars to Scale (see NOTE)
Name of planets as shown:
Pluto Mercury Mars Venus Earth Neptune Uranus Jupiter Saturn
Name of Stars as shown:
Sun Sirius Vega Pollux Arcturus Aldebaran Rigel Deneb Pistol Star Betelgeuse Antares VV Cephei
=========================================
Name of Song: Stakka & K Tee – Rubber Bullet
Original video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z1NkoZeTEWc
Author: jaxxrr
Channel: http://www.youtube.com/user/jaxxrr
=======================================
NOTE: This video is a edited version of “Energy vs Information” made by jaxxrr (to which all credit goes to), I was very impressed by the production value both the video and music.

Seeing that it received few hits, which may be due to the title and tags. In order for more people to see and enjoy this video I mirrored the edited version, so people won’t get too side tracked on the political message. (Although I’m against wars and big oil as well)

Please see the original version if you like here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z1NkoZeTEWc

-=NOTE=-
This video was made BEFORE “VY Canis Majoris” was listed as the largest known star, When this video was made 2006 by it’s author JAXXrr, the star “VV Cephei A” was listed as the largest known star.

For a list of current largest “known” stars see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_largest_known_stars
Keep in mind while watching this video that the “largest known stars” are all found in our own galaxy (The Milky Way). We know of only of a very few of the estimated 200-300 Billion stars that make up our galaxy, which is just ONE of at least 300-500 billion galaxies in the visible Universe.
To learn more about the Universe see this site; it will blow your mind!…

Why do planets that are closest to the sun orbit faster than the planets furthest away?

Posted on May 8th, 2010 by admin

I am helping my daughter with a science project and would like to know specifically why planets that are closest to the sun orbit faster than further planets? I am having difficulty finding a specific explaination. Serious answers only. Thank you!

There are a combination of factors. One is that gravity is stronger closer to the sun. It’s strength drops off with the square of the distance away from the source, so close in gravity is a LOT stronger than farther away.

Also, planets near the sun have orbits that are smaller circles than those farther away. I takes longer to go around a longer path.

I could go into the technical details of how Newton’s laws of motion and gravitation give rise to Kepler’s laws of planetary motion but I’ll stop here for now.

How many Earth like planets are there in the universe with existence of air water and life?

Posted on May 5th, 2010 by admin

Earth has been the only planet since millions of years with the proof of life. All other planets are merely assumptions by astrologers that earth-like planets exist beyond our Milky way. Recently an earth like planet was discovered by astrologers which was supposed to have life, fire, water and Oxygen like gas.But that is all a foolish assumption.

I don’t think they’ve discovered a planet with exactly Earth’s specifications but I have heard they’ve found some promising planets that could support life. But even if they haven’t, consider this: There are 100 billion observable galaxies in the universe, each with 15 million to 1 trillion stars of which our sun is but one. The odds, therefore, that there are planets out there which are capable of supporting life like ours are therefore mathematically very very good. Just because we haven’t found them yet doesn’t mean they don’t exist. Now actually getting to them when they are thousands of light years away is another problem altogether!
